Blanket insulation

Blanket insulation is the category name. It refers to insulation that comes in flexible sheets or rolls.

  • Usually made of fiberglass or mineral wool

  • Sold in rolls or pre-cut sections

  • Designed to fit between studs, joists, and rafters

👉 Batt insulation is actually a type of blanket insulation.

Batt insulation

Batt insulation is blanket insulation that’s pre-cut into standard sizes.

  • Sized to fit common stud spacing (like 16" or 24" on center)

  • Faster and easier to install than rolls

  • Common in walls, ceilings, and floors

  • Often has paper or foil facing (for vapor control)

Roll insulation (the other blanket type)

Also part of blanket insulation:

  • Comes in long continuous rolls

  • Can be cut to length on site

  • Better for long, uninterrupted spaces (like attics)
