Is resilient channel worth installing in your basement ceiling?
It depends on your goals. Resilient channels can be worth installing in the ceiling if you're trying to reduce airborne noise, like voices or TV sounds, from traveling between floors. They work by decoupling the drywall from the framing, reducing sound vibrations. However, they have some downsides:Limited impact on impact noise (like footsteps) unless combined with other measures (e.g., insulation, damping compound, or floating floors).Improper installation can ruin effectiveness (e.g., screws penetrating the channel and hitting the joists).Alternative solutions like hat channels with sound isolation clips can be more effective but are also more expensive. If noise control is a big concern, resilient channels are a cost-effective upgrade but work best when combined with other soundproofing methods. What's your main reason for considering them?
