What screws to use when you're installing drywall.
When you’re installing drywall, the type of screw thread matters. Here’s the breakdown: Coarse Thread Drywall Screws Threading: Widely spaced, sharper, deeper threads.Best for: Wood studs. Why: The coarse threads bite into soft wood quickly and hold firmly without stripping out. They drive faster and with less effort.
Fine Thread Drywall Screws Threading: Tighter, more closely spaced threads.Best for: Metal studs. Why: Fine threads grip better in thin-gauge steel and reduce the risk of stripping out. They also cut into the metal more effectively than coarse threads.
Quick rule of thumb: Wood studs → Coarse screws Metal studs → Fine screws metal suds or metal channel.
